History:

In the late eighteenth century Hugo Cottage initiated a reform of education, which included the new university curriculum and courses in mechanics, statistics, hydrostatics, surface metrology, hydrography, and civil and military architecture. Cottage’s plans were more ambitious, but had to be postponed as the Polish state was on the verge of collapse.
The Institute of Technology, established in 1834, provided a solid foundation for the further development of engineering education in Krakow offering courses in arts, engineering, and polygraph. The name and status of the institute was changed several times, but the school lasted more than a hundred years, preparing well-qualified technicians for professional work. The restoration of independence in 1918 opened new educational possibilities for future engineers in Krakow.
In 1921, the Mining Academy established a chair for civil engineering with Prof. Isidore Stella Sawicki in charge. The process of establishing the University of Technology in Krakow began, but the road to achieving this goal was full of obstacles.
After the end of World War II, the infrastructure had been greatly destroyed, and the Lwów University of Technology was founded, the oldest university in Poland in the field of technology, famous for its high level of education, with Krakow being the only academic city that was relatively unaffected by military operations. Professor Stella Sawicki realized that opening a new technical university was a top priority for the nation. persuade the professor. Walery Goetel, Dean of the Academy of Mining, supported his plan and reached a verbal agreement with the Minister of Education.
In 1945, the Organizing Committee was formed with headquarters at 28 Straszewskiego Street and 7 3 Maja Street.
Then the committee began intensive preparations for the start of the school year as soon as possible. The enthusiasm for the creation of a new university was remarkable: the enrollment was voluntary, without any registration fees, the commission also succeeded in including on the university staff the best architects in Krakow: Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz and Jerzy Struszkiewicz, and received much assistance from Marian Kamieński and Rudolf Śmiałowski, members of the faculty Ex-teaching at Lwów University of Technology.
After a four-month effort, the new university started its activities and held courses and lectures for about half a year despite the lack of official approval from the new authorities.
The legal deadlock was broken on October 5, 1945 when the Ministry of Education decided to establish three independent polytechnic colleges within the Mining Academy, without creating an independent university. This separate unit, managed by Prof. Stella Sawicki, had the Senate, its budget, and its administration. Other legislation was issued in 1946 setting the date of establishing colleges on April 1, 1945. This day is celebrated as the beginning of the Krakow University of Technology.
In 1947, the polytechnic faculties were moved to a university campus near the city center, in historic buildings on Warsawska Street.
The Krakow University of Technology gained its present name and independence in 1954. Professor Ludomir Shleidzinsky was nominated as the university’s first president. CUT soon started scientific research and developed close cooperation with the industrial department. Gradually, new colleges were opened. On September 30, 1976, by official decree, General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Polish and American national hero and skilled engineer, was chosen as its patron.
Over the 70 years of its existence, the Krakow University of Technology has often updated programs and courses, and each time adjusting them in accordance with current scientific conditions and needs, along with academic programs, the infrastructure of CUT has been improved.

Teaching staff:
Rector: Prof. Dr. Andrzej Białkiewicz
Staff: More than 1,100 academic teachers
Students: Approximately 13,000 full-time, part-time, doctoral, and postgraduate students study in it.

The university offers students accommodation in four dormitories with more than 2,000 dormitories.

Faculties:
The campus includes 8 faculties:
College of Architecture/ College of Computer and Communication Sciences/ College of Electrical and Computer Engineering/ College of Civil Engineering/ College of Materials Science and Physics/ College of Environmental and Energy Engineering/ College of Chemical Engineering and Technology/ College of Mechanical Engineering

University Library :

_ The first building of the Polytechnic Colleges is located at 3 Maja Av. It was also the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Izydor Stella-Sawicki, who not only played an important role in the creation of the Polytechnic Faculties in Krakow, but also in the creation of a scientific library.
_ In 1947, the faculties were moved to the campus in historical buildings on Warsaw Street, and this site also began to be the home of the library since 1949. The library was established with the university by the decision of the Minister of Education. In response to the growth of information needs of university staff and students, the Director of the Library established the Information Services Department in 1963. A few years later, the Library acquired a pavilion for the exhibition. Adjusted according to the new functions, the wing began to be a workplace for the library’s magazine reading room, information services department, researchers’ reading room, series section, and closed journals. In an effort to meet the expectations of the students, the library opened a branch (DS-4) in the student housing area, located at 9 Skarżyńskiego Street in 1978. Moreover, due to the development of the university, the library established a second branch on the campus in Czyżyny in 2003, in Jana Pawla II Av.

_ Initially, the library owned only a small collection of scientific books from the professor’s personal collection. Stella Sawicki.
_ The library collection has been expanded due to the support of the Ministry of Education and the Jagiellonian Library. After a while, the CUT Library began expanding the collection via acquisitions or gifts.

_The oldest books from the library’s collection date back to the 17th century and are associated with architecture, this was probably due to the fact that the Faculty of Architecture, as the first department of CUT, received 3,000 volumes in 1945.
_ The library also owned books from the Evening School of Engineering and scientific academic circles, which greatly expanded its collection. The library can be proud of many valuable and rare documents and drawings available online in the CUT (new window) repository.

The new model for teaching doctoral students additionally implies a significant improvement in their financial situation; Every student gets a scholarship.

The scholarship system is considered a novelty in doctoral education under the new Higher Education and Science Law.
The doctoral school shall provide education in those scientific disciplines in which the Krakow University of Technology is entitled to award doctoral degrees.
They are seven majors: architecture and urban planning, automation, electronics and electrical engineering, chemical engineering, civil and transportation engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, and mining and energy.
Education at the Doctoral School lasts 8 semesters, is free of charge and depends on the program of study as well as the individual research plan.
Most of the courses at the doctoral school must be available in both Polish and English.
The President of the University established the Doctoral Faculty at the Krakow University of Technology. It is a separate organizational unit supervised by the Vice President for Science.
