It is the oldest economics university in Poland. Its mission has been to continually educate economists and business leaders who serve the nation, country, and region.
University history:
The Warsaw School of Economics was founded in 1906 as a private school under the name (Zieliński) for men’s trade, and in 1919 it became a legal entity and received the status of a higher education institution.
In 1933 its name was changed to Szkoła Główna Handlowa, the official abbreviation (SGH).
After the Second World War, the school was nationalized and its name changed to become (Szkoła Główna Planowania i Statystyki) the main school for planning and statistics with the abbreviation (SGPiS), then it returned and regained its previous name before the war after the fall of communism in 1991.
It is located on the northern edge of Mokotow in the Warsaw region, close to bus and tram stops and to the Pole Mokotowskie metro station.
SGH Warsaw School of Economics offers courses leading to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree for both full-time and overseas students. It also offers doctoral and postgraduate degree programs.
SGH cooperates with about 200 institutions of higher education around the world within the student and staff exchange areas, and is a member of CEMS, LLP Erasmus, a partner in the International Management Network (PIM) and the European Universities Association EUA.

Campus :
It is a historical facility that is a model of the original Polish architectural building of the interwar period. The complex of buildings was built for the purposes of the school, and with development and improvement it became an ideal center of academic life.

The library :
The first economic library in Poland, the library building was built in 1928-1931, and the building is an example of the most advanced and innovative functional solutions used at that time in Europe, especially the use of natural light falling on the reading room covered with triple-roofed domes.
As for the main building, it was built in 1951 and was arranged around the central courtyard covered with a stepped pyramid, giving it the form of interior caves surrounded by galleries and topped by a glass canopy called the Umbrella Theater
The library owns nearly a million volumes of studies, a thousand titles of joint foreign and Polish periodicals, and about 30,000 titles of foreign journals available electronically.
The holdings of the Saudi German Hospital library are organized into several groups, each group is available in different sections, either through free receipt or through library request vouchers, or borrowing, and students are allowed to borrow books from the student loan library exclusively.
Sport Center :
The center consists of two gymnasiums, a fitness room, swimming pool and sauna available to students on the SGH campus. One can sign up for either a physical education (PE) class or university team activities.
Physical education classes include: football, basketball, volleyball, calannetics, aerobics, swimming and dance.
The group activities offered are: karate, skiing, aerobics, rock climbing, tennis, table tennis, track and field sports, sailing, football, swimming, volleyball and basketball.
School magazines:
Polish Journal of Economics Gospodarka Narodowa. The Polish Journal of Economics is a quarterly scholarly journal that publishes groundbreaking research in all areas of economics and economic policy. The magazine was founded in 1931 and since 2000 it is edited at the Collegium of Economic Analysis of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics.
Journal of Public Policy Studies Studia z Polityki Publicznej
Founded in 2014, focuses on publishing science issues, and is published every three months
